About this citation checker
A free tool for students, researchers and editors who need to know whether the references in a paper are real.
Why it exists
AI writing tools invent references that look right, and the existing checkers ask you to sign up or pay before checking a single one. This one works straight away on the page, for up to 25 references at a time.
Where the data comes from
Every lookup goes to CrossRef, the registry publishers use for DOIs, and OpenAlex, an open index of scholarly works run by the non-profit OurResearch. We are not affiliated with either. Their records are good but not complete, so a “Not found” mark means “not in these databases”, not proof that a source is fake.
